The worlds first purpose built gallery - take in the gothic style building to start with. Then inside enjoy the photographs, sculptures and paintings of people who shaped Scotland in the past and now.
This is one of my personal favorites when it comes to museums. Often overlooked, it offers a wonderful snapshot of Victorian architecture influenced by high Venetian style and an eclectic sense of Scottish history through the people who made it. Its Cafe Portrait is perfect for working away on your laptop while enjoying a coffee, early lunch or afternoon tea.

Worth a visit for the collection, the cafe, and the decorative Neo Gothic architecture & interior.
The nearest gallery to the flat. Packed with interest in terms of biography in art. Aside from that the building itself is an absolute star. Short walk then across St Andrews Square to the Scottish National Gallery. 10/15 minute bus ride depending on traffic or 25/30 minute walk but uphill.
