Must Visit Hiking Trails
Joshua Tree National Park is so big that it can be hard to choose the right hikes. Below are some of my favorite hikes along with a few notes from family friendly, hiking distance, and my top hikes not to miss.
Closest Joshua Tree National Park hike from our home. This 3 Mile round trip hike featuring a slight incline hike that ends in an oasis of palm trees frequented by Bighorn sheep and is rated as moderate. This hike will give you a good calf burn.

49 Palms Oasis Trail
Fortynine Palms Oasis TrailClosest Joshua Tree National Park hike from our home. This 3 Mile round trip hike featuring a slight incline hike that ends in an oasis of palm trees frequented by Bighorn sheep and is rated as moderate. This hike will give you a good calf burn.

Although easy it allows you the opportunity to venture off to see some amazing formations, great photo shots and overall great time! The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.

Great hike with tons of photo opportunities, Wall Street Mill Trail is a 2.4 mile out and back trail located within Joshua Tree National Park that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail features abandoned cars, tombstone with history and the mine at the end of the trail. Well worth the hike!

Arch Rock Nature Trail is a 1.2 mile out and back trail located near the north entrance that features a large arch that some say look like two elephants. This trail is good for all skill levels. Park near the campsite, not in the campsite to save yourself a walk. I recommend parking past the campsite on the left at the very first dirt lot you find.

Great Photo Op not too far from the start of the trail. Skull rock is located right off the road and can be a great quick photo op for friends and family. You can venture off past this formation and explore the area or walk across the street and do a short nature trail with the family. If you just want the photo no need to plan for a long stay at this location.

Great trails for bird lovers, families and anyone looking for a well rounded hike that has a bit of everything. Don't be fooled this dam is not always filled with but when it does you will see a lot of wildlife from birds to a variety of other reptiles and animals. This hiking trail is right next to Mills Hike as well so its a great place to knock out two hikes back to back. Moderate hike.

This hiking trail is right next to Mills Hike as well so its a great place to knock out two hikes back to back. Moderate hike.
