An alternative to Fontana is the public Laugarvatn swimming pool. There is also a gym there if you want to keep up with your workouts. It is located also just a few meters from the apartment. Go down the street towards the lake but turn right at Fontana, you can’t miss it.

Þingvellir National Park is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site because of its contribution to our country and to the world – specifically because this is the site of the world's oldest existing parliament
About 10,000 years ago, after the Langjökull glacier had retreated and reached its current position, a shield volcanic eruption started in the Thingvellir area. This resulted in the formation of some of the most beautiful Icelandic shield volcanoes which today decorate the landscape around the national park.

Slakki petting zoo, located close to Skálholt cathedral, a popular stop on the Golden Circle route. At Slakki you will find gentle animals, such as rabbits, ducks, dogs, parrots and kittens. Little cutesie creatures that are perfect for kids to hold and pet.
Slakki petting zoo is one of my favorite spots in the south of Iceland. It’s perfect for kids, whether young or old, and it actually makes us grown ups feel like children again.

In Efstidalur you will get a unique and different experience. Right in the middle of the Golden Circle, you get a glance of the farm life in Iceland. This family farm has opened up for tourists and offers a variety of products straight from the farm, such as the famous ice cream, skyr and feta cheese. The restaurant also offers beef from the farm and other local food.
Efstidalur II is run by four siblings and their families. They recently took over the business from their parents that started and developed the concept with them as it is today. The siblings are the 7th generation living on the property but their family has been living on Efstidalur II since around 1750. They are dairy farmers first and foremost, but since 2002 the business has developed with increased tourism in the area. In 2013 they opened the restaurant and café and began to make their own products from their milk that they offer our guest to taste and enjoy.
