Useful information for South Iceland villa

Food scene

A former cow-shed converted into a very charming restaurant/café/bar situated right across the main road from us (approx 5-10min walk). The food is straight-forward but always delicious, the owners focusing on local meat, fish and produce as base material for their dishes. Excellent service and friendly atmosphere.

An absolutely beautiful modern 4-star hotel with bar and restaurant only 5km away from our house (direction sea). The views towards glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull from here are amazing. Also, on the right-hand side of the parking lot there is a path leading towards the sea-front, taking about 15min max to reach there on foot (but please note that one must wade a shallow creek on the way). Highly recommended!

Approx. 35min drive to the east of our house is beautiful Vík, the setting for the recent and popular Netflix series "Katla". As in Hvolsvöllur, all types of service can be found here (gas station, supermarket, health and emergency services, pharmacy etc.). The incredible Reynisfjara beach is just around the corner.

Bottled water

It is completely unneccessary to buy drinking water in bottles, no matter what who says, as the water from tap in Iceland is just as fresh and good (sometimes even better, as in our case, where all the water for our house comes directly from our own source only 200m away... meaning that our guests will be enjoying ice-cold glacial water of the highest quality straight from the kitchen tap)
