If you're into wine and would like to taste some locally produced Croatian wine, then Kozlović Winery is a must-see! They have been producing wine for 4 generations, and they are keen to tell you all about it if you visit them. Remember to book in advance! I haven't had time to visit it myself yet, but I've spoken to people who have, and they only say the best about it. Enjoy! 😊

Sightseeing

There's a lot to see in Istria. You can explore on your own, but you can also draw some inspiration from this list. One thing I couldn't add to the list is a recently opened coal mine sightseeing tour in Raša. On the website ARSIANA (DOT) HR you can find out more about the youngest city in Istria, made specifically for the coal mine. In their first season (2023), the Mine is walking you through a miner's life and work, and it features a mine photo point and some food. 😊
Our national park, which has for 60+ years been used as a presidential suite. It features a zoo and a theatre in the open, if you’re here during the high season. Daily tours by boat can be taken from Poreč or Pula, and we definitely recommend it! 🛥

Seven Waterfalls Trail near Buzet is a recommendation for hiking lovers! In the summer remember also to grab swimming shorts/suit to take a swim. 😎

One of only truly sand beaches in Istria, the trip here through Istria will make sure you see the beauty of the Istrian peninsula! The whole city/village of Rabac is really picturesque, as it’s on a narrow slope with unforgettable views and during the summer the whole village is turned into a parking! You can also see the island of Cres from Rabac. 😊

City/town information

Motovun is a picturesque city located on top of a hill, famous for its movie festival (takes places every summer) and its truffles. It's a medieval fortress and a must-see place, and anyone visiting will love the city's streets, views and the local food. 👆

Grožnjan is a pearl of the continental Istria, as the city's nickname is 'Town of Artists', due to having around 20 art galleries in a city core of only 156 inhabitants. 🎨 I personally see it as a hidden gem, as it’s less busy than Motovun and also a medieval fortress within Istrias forests. 🏕 If you’re lucky enough to get there during the second half of July, you’ll probably hear an open-air jazz festival (Jazz is Back - BP) taking place every evening. It’s great for whole-family visits! At all times, you will be able to enjoy delicious local food and might even be greeted in Italian, as the municipality of Grožnjan is the only Croatian municipality to have an ethnic Italian majority. 🇮🇹

Pula is a historic city for which I recommend the bus tour. 🚌 You’ll hear about Pula’s Roman remains (the amphitheater), it’s Austro-Hungarian importance and see it’s beauty. For those wanting to see the coolest beach in Istria, go to Gortan’s Cove. It’s amazing for Instagram posts! 📸
