If I'm going to surf here, it'll be a morning surf, because generally the wind comes up in the afternoon. It's a straight beach and the break is close to the shore, so it’s actually a really gnarly and dangerous wave. I wouldn't necessarily recommend everyone surf here, but it's still pretty fun to watch when the conditions are good. There’s an old surf movie called Runman 69, and the majority of it was shot right at Zuma.

Zuma Beach is less populated than most of Los Angeles’ more famous beaches. This is the beach you want to go to if you want to go for a swim, a romantic picnic, or just relax on the sand. Definitely more tranquil type of vibes.

Follow your GPS to the entrance and then drive as far north through the parking lot as possible. When you reach the northern end of the lot, park. This stretch of beach is where the water is the calmest for kids and adults to play in, but if you walk out an extra 10-15 yards, you can still reach the waves. It's a perfect spot for families. Stroll north on the beach to see some of the beautiful beachside properties, stroll south to see surfers.
