Slightly further afield in Hayes Valley at Gough & Oak there is Rich Table, a great restaurant for a celebration. My favorite is basically everything I've ever eaten there. I usually do the chef's picks (tasting menu). Reservations recommended.

Absolutely amazing. You must reserve 30 days in advance, so plan ahead.

Californian fare from local ingredients, served in a salvaged-barn-wood space with an open kitchen. Creative dishes and fantastic service. One block away!

Rich, delicious, creative food. Combinations of ingredients you've never thought of combining. We love the pastas and the sardine chips the best. Often booked but arrive early and sit at the bar.
