Suleymaniye Mosque, the journeyman work of Mimar Sinan, is one of the most admirable places to visit in Istanbul. Located in Beyazıt district, the mosque was built by the order of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, whose name it can be understood from. Every detail of the mosque, whose construction was completed between 1551 and 1557, has been carefully thought through and calculated very well. Mimar Sinan spent weeks trying to adjust the acoustics in the best way by using empty cubes. He developed ideas for using the soot from oil lamps in ink production. Ostrich eggs were used to prevent insect and scorpion infestations in the mosque. The Süleymaniye Complex, where the Süleymaniye Mosque is located, is spread over a very large area. The complex with 15 sections; It also has areas such as madrasahs, a cemetery, a hospital, a library, a Turkish bath, and a primary school. There are also the tombs of Mimar Sinan, Suleiman the Magnificent and Hürrem Sultan in the complex.

Wikipedia: The Süleymaniye Mosque (Turkish: Süleymaniye Camii, Turkish pronunciation: [sylejˈmaːnije]) is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan. An inscription specifies the foundation date as 1550 and the inauguration date as 1557. The mosque was built by the Ottoman sultan Suleyman (r. 1520-1566) and the mosque was named after him. The mosque is located at the highest end of the city of Istanbul. It is designed to glorify the sultan[1] Construction of this mosque began before 1550 and was nearly completed in 1557[2]. Sultan Suleyman used Mimar Sinan (d. 1588), the greatest engineer and architect of his time for the work of this mosque [3]. The architecture and craftsmanship of the mosque are very beautiful and attract many worshipers and visitors. The Süleymaniye Mosque, was built on the order of Sultan Süleyman (Süleyman the Magnificent), and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan. The Arabic foundation inscription above the north portal of the mosque is carved in thuluth script on three marble panels. It gives a foundation date of 1550 and an inauguration date of 1557. In reality the planning of the mosque began before 1550 and parts of the complex were not completed until after 1557.[4] The design of the Süleymaniye also plays on Suleyman's self-conscious representation of himself as a 'second Solomon.' It references the Dome of the Rock, which was built on the site of the Temple of Solomon, as well as Justinian's boast upon the completion of the Hagia Sophia: "Solomon, I have surpassed thee!"[5] The Süleymaniye, similar in magnificence to the preceding structures, asserts Suleyman's historical importance. The structure is nevertheless smaller in size than its older archetype, the Hagia Sophia.

The Süleymaniye crowns one of İstanbul's seven hills and dominates the Golden Horn, providing a landmark for the entire city. Though it's not the largest of the Ottoman mosques, it is certainly one of the grandest and most beautiful. It's also unusual in that many of its original külliye (mosque complex) buildings have been retained and sympathetically adapted for reuse.
