María has an exhibition at her home which is on Mýrar 8 in Patreksfjörður it is about French fishermen who came to Iceland on their fishing boats to Patreksfjörður and the Westfords. Maria has been collecting Artifacts and information about this "forgotten period" for over 20 years. She has made a map of the Westfjords showing their locations and also where their ships ran aground. The life of these French fishermen was difficult, no less than that of the Icelandic fishermen, struggle with unpleasant natural forces, diseases and frequent accidents.

The lovely Patreksfjördur town church

A beautiful church It took two years to build from 1904 to 1907 and It is made of concrete -the only two other known churches made out of concrete are Bíldudal Church and Ingjaldshóll in Hellissandur. The church holds about 200 people and there is an organ upstairs which was brought in 1957. The first priest was Father Bjarna Símonarson who conducted his first sermon on 19. May 1907. In 1957 on the 50th anniversary of the church the famous Icelandic artist Erró created a mosaic artwork on the church's pulpit. The Altarpiece painting in the Church is copy of "One thing is necessary." by Carl Bloch who was a well-known Danish painter.
