Architectural highlight of Gandia - A beautifully preserved palace, steeped in history and well worth the €6 admission. The Ducal Palace of Gandia was, from the 14th century, the residence of the Royal Dukes of Gandía, and from 1485, the Borja family. It was the birthplace of Sant Francis Borja. At the heart and soul of Gandia. Lots of cafes and bars/restaurants within a couple of minutes walk of the palace as it is close to the main Gandia shopping streets- the Calle Mayor. Excellent clean toilets. The Palau closes for siesta from 13.30 -16.00. If you need car parking there is an underground pay car park close by at the end of Carrer Canonge Noguera.

The museum shows the history of the 'Faller' festival. Fantastic displays and worth a visit (about one hour). The best part is that you have a tour guide and everything is explained to you and there are also interactive parts such as the mascaletas (fireworks) and music. It introduces the diverse elements of the fallas and the people who are a part of it, including builders, sculptors, designers, as well as the music, the clothing, and fireworks. Great for the whole family. Nice cafe.

If you are looking for less busy beaches you will find these here. Oliva is where the Spanish go on holiday and is less touristy. The beaches are never very busy. Terranova beach in Oliva is one of our favourites. It has long soft white sandy beaches.

Some of our favourite restaurants are in the old city centre of Gandia on the city square (Placa Major | Esquina Ayuntamiento). This is next to the church and the old town hall. Some of the restaurants are very popular so making a reservation is sometimes needed. There are many very good restaurants available in Gandia. A typical dish of the region is fideuà where noodles substitute rice and are cooked with fish and shellfish.

Passeig de les Germanies is a particularly interesting part of town. This is a tree lined promenade with fountains and benches; the bridge at the eastern end of the Passeig crosses the river bed over to the area where the weekly Saturday morning market is held.
