Come here for lunch or dinner, and stop by on Wednesdays for an expanded selection of vegan options. Go to dish: Thali, Chicken 65 and Chicken Madras along with all the vegan options.

You can choose a vegetarian option, beef or chicken and that is that. But don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the menu, the quality of ingredients is outstanding, and there certainly is a dash of secret magic in there, making this simple option, oh so good.

There are lots of options for sushi in Reykjavik but Sakebarinn located on the corner of Skólavörðustígur and Laugavegur on the second floor of a mustard yellow house is one that stands out. All the options are made to order, it can take a little bit of time to get the food, but the carefully crafted bites are worth every minute. Go to dish: my mouth is watering just thinking of them, order as many as you think you can possibly eat, they are all great.

Founded by two locals after travels south of the border, Serrano emphasizes fresh, healthy, quality food and they succeed in doing so. Think of a healthier version of Chipotle. Go to dishes: Cajun Burrito with a side of everything else that’s on the menu.

Next up located on Skólavörðustígur, just a couple of houses down from Hallgrímskirkja (the big church) you’ll find Kol Restaurant. This is my all time favorite place for lunch, if you are a foodie go here early on in your trip, you may want to come back. My go to plates for this gem: fish of the day, a shared seafood starter and their famous burger for lunch. These guys are also great at mixing drinks.

Bus 1 drives you to down town Reykjavik. You take the same bus from Reykjavik, no 1 and when you reach the bus terminal in Hafnarfjörður you take bus no 43 again...or just walk back if the weather is nice.
