A homespun Mexican place. Very unassuming, but their Diablo Shrimp appetizer is delicious, plenty for a meal, under $8, and will cure your sinuses. Their margritas aren't too shabby either. Three minutes away in rush hour.

If your taste drifts more towards interior than Tex-Mex, try this place. And if you grew up eating the old recipe for shrimp enchiladas at El Rancho in Austin (that they do a lousy job on now), this place has it -- order the La Playa Enchiladas. They often have 99-cent margarita specials to boot. The deck is loud, but it's a deck.

Very kid-freindly -- with the resident Vizla and the the parrot Hondo. Open for lunch, too. Great view of Corpus Christi Bay.
