Perfect lunch stop while touring the Golden Circle... the setting at Lake Laugarvatn is just lovely, and I wonder how many people realize the history of the Vígðalaug (“Blessed Pool”) right at the edge of the lake nearby. In any case, this is a great departure from the larger tourists sites (and crowds) to take a break at this little gem.

The Great Geysir, is a geyser in southwestern Iceland. It was the first geyser described in a printed source and the first known to modern Europeans. The English word geyser (a periodically spouting hot spring) derives from Geysir. The name Geysir itself is derived from the Icelandic verb geysa, "to gush", the verb from Old Norse. Geysir lies in the Haukadalur valley on the slopes of Laugarfjall hill, which is also the home to Strokkur geyser about 50 metres south. Eruptions at Geysir can hurl boiling water up to 70 metres in the air.

Gullfoss is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland. The wide Hvítá rushes southward, and about a kilometre above the falls it turns sharply to the right and flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 metres or 36 feet, and 21 metres or 69 feet) into a crevice 32 metres (105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 metres (66 ft) wide and 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) in length, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river. The average amount of water running down the waterfall is 140 cubic metres (4,900 cu ft) per second in the summer and 80 cubic metres (2,800 cu ft) per second in the winter. The highest flood measured was 2,000 cubic

Kerið (occasionally Anglicized as Kerith or Kerid) is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, along the Golden Circle. It is one of several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone, which includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, created as the land moved over a localized hotspot, but it is the one that has the most visually recognizable caldera still intact. The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of a red (rather than black) volcanic rock. The caldera itself is approximately 55 m (180 ft) deep, 170 m (560 ft) wide, and 270 m (890 ft) across.

For you drive to Landmannalaugar a 4WD is necessary to cross river e.t.c. There some rivers to cross just before reaching the campsite and hot springs - you can choose to park without crossing last river, and walk the extra 3-400m to the campsite. http://www.iceland24blog.com/2013/06/landmannalaugar.html

HAVE YOU SEEN A GIRAFFE TODAY? The museum was opened to public in 2004. The Hunting- Wildlife Museum is the only museum in Iceland that is dedicated to hunting and wildlife. The museum is not only established to entertain and inform the public but as a testament to ethical hunting, the right to hunt and to pass the skill of hunting on to future generations. The collection contains a large number of Icelandic mammals and birds as well as mammals from Africa and Greenland, including a shoulder mount of muskox, full mount polar bear, giraffe as well as full mount lions, male and a female. The collection is unique and should not be missed by anyone interested in wildlife and hunting.

Ljósafoss Power Station The oldest power station in the River Sog is located near Ljósafoss by Lake Úlfljótsvatn’s outflow. The station is located on the river bank east of the waterfall, and the water runs through pipes to the station’s turbines and from there into the river below the waterfall. Operation of the Ljósafoss station began in 1937, when two turbine units were installed with a combined capacity of 8.8 MW. The third turbine was installed in 1944 with 6.5 MW.
