Krauma is a natural geothermal bath & spa next to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring.
The hot water originates in Deildartunguhver, at a temperature of 100°C (212°F) and no extra chemicals are needed in the water as the water is constantly being replaced by the rapid natural flow rate of the hot spring.
Krauma has a total of six baths, five warm and one cold and you can order drinks and relax in the hot tubs.
I would rather recommend it for adults as it consists of hot tubs and no slides but of course family-friendly as every place in Iceland.
I highly recommend the restaurant as well, good quality food for a reasonable price.

Víðgelmir is one of the best preserved caves of the well known caves in Iceland. This is due to ice buildup during the 1960s finally closed off the only access into Víðgelmir in 1972.The cave was reopened in 1994 and closed for public until recently. As such you will still find lava formations that long since have been destroyed in other well known caves.
You book a 1.5-hour tour into the cave and they start several tours daily. We highly recommend this tour both for adults and kids. The cave is very colorful and it is a unique experience.

The newly opened canyon baths are special. You need to book a tour at Húsafell and your guide will drive you from Húsafell to the canyon baths. There are two geothermal pools of varying temperatures, 30-41°C (86-105°F), plus a cold-water spring at 10°C (50°F), each with a spectacular view of the surrounding canyon, mountains, and glaciers. This is a unique place to visit as it can only be visited by a booked tour so never gets overly crowded. If you would like to visit a natural (stony ground) pool in a beautiful environment but have the luxury of a shower then this is the place for you. You are allowed to bring your own drinks (no glass).

Husafell Canyon Baths
The newly opened canyon baths are special. You need to book a tour at Húsafell and your guide will drive you from Húsafell to the canyon baths. There are two geothermal pools of varying temperatures, 30-41°C (86-105°F), plus a cold-water spring at 10°C (50°F), each with a spectacular view of the surrounding canyon, mountains, and glaciers. This is a unique place to visit as it can only be visited by a booked tour so never gets overly crowded. Into the Glacier
Langjökull is Iceland second largest glacier. You can book a tour inside the glacier, into a man-made tunnel. For a small entrance fee, you can pet the goats, and learn about the goats in Iceland. They sell awesome goat products, cheese, soaps, creams, and sausages. A fun activity with kids.

It has now a new house and actually much nicer than the photos indicate:) it is probably less crowded than the swimming pools around and cost a fraction of the other more spa like geothermal pools. Nice alternative for a relaxing evening. Only open during summer months, opens again mid June and opening hours are: Tue-Fri 18:00-22:00 and weekends 13:00-22:00

You can find swings, slides, an old boat and many other fun things in an adventurous environment. It is an easy walk from the Borgarnes swimming pool along the sprint track or you can walk from Englendingavík. A great stop to stretch and let the kids play before heading to new adventures.

Food scene
A nice family-friendly restaurant in one of the oldest houses of Borgarnes, a town 30 min from our cottage. Our favorite is their vegetarian lunch buffet and in the evening they offer dishes from local ingredients.
The Settlement Center is as well a museum that provides a wonderful insight into Iceland’s history in two exhibitions one about the settlement of Iceland and the other on the Egils saga that took place in the neighborhood.

13-15 BrákarbrautA nice family-friendly restaurant in one of the oldest houses of Borgarnes, a town 30 min from our cottage. Our favorite is their vegetarian lunch buffet and in the evening they offer dishes from local ingredients.
The Settlement Center is as well a museum that provides a wonderful insight into Iceland’s history in two exhibitions one about the settlement of Iceland and the other on the Egils saga that took place in the neighborhood.
When you travel to Iceland you have to try the soft ice cream! Huppa is the place to go! You can choose from two icecream versions, the creamy "sveitaís" or more milky "huppuís" icecream.
Try "huppurefur" or the smaller version for kids " huppukrútt". You get soft ice cream which is mixed with three different types of your choice (candy, berries, chocolate, etc). This is heaven and probably not your only ice cream in Iceland.

Hótel Húsafell is a hotel 15 min away from our cottage. If you are up for fine dining or a nice wine or cocktail this is the place to spend the evening just a couple of minutes away.

At the N1 gas station in Borgarnes is a healthy option for a breakfast, lunch or just in-between the Icelandic Ískey skyr bar. They offer skyr bowls and boozt. The 1001 night version is heaven but you can of course choose what you like.
