Cross over to Ostrander Lake for a lovely stroll ending with a dip in the water! Hike the high country trail to the edge of El Capitan. Bring your water and comfortable foot gear!

This lovely man-made lake is surrounded by pine trees, created in 1901 when a creek running through the area was dammed to create a hydroelectric power plant. All traffic flows to the right with specially marked swimming areas. Fee for picnic table use and BYO-propane bbq grill. 4th of July is a treat with a lighted boat parade and fireworks over the water! Boats, kayaks, SUP are available for rent at the Forks Resort. On the other side of the lake is the Pines Resort with various dining & boat rental options. Hiking up Goat Hill is very pleasant: share the trail in parts with adventurist mountain bikers.

Lewis Creek Trail
Cedar Valley DriveOnly 15-20 minutes away. Go early to ensure parking since many Yosemite visitors side track here. Bring insect repellant. Wonderful hiking on trail across the creek all the way to Sugar Pine: incredible waterfalls to your right down the hill.
Closer than Yosemite's Domes. Fairly gentle hiking. Climbers use the steep sides to practice their skills.

City/town information
Everything you could possibly need to make your vacation complete is located just 5 minutes away in the town of Oakhurst. Shopping at full service grocery stores (Von's, Ralph's, Grocery Outlet), sporting goods (Big 5, consignment AlpenGlow Gear, bike shops), automotive supplies (O'Reilly's, AutoZone), hardware needs (Ace Hardware, True Value) and many small businesses providing unique art, antiques, custom designs, pet supplies, souvenirs, etc. There are restaurants for every level of entertaining from white tablecloth European, spicy Mexican faire, fresh Japanese sushi, best Pizza on earth, juicy burgers to fast food take out like Subway, Taco Bell, Carl's Jr, McDonald's, coffee & pastries & more. There's a 6-theater cinema and just out of town a local playhouse. Oakhurst Community Park has a grassy lawn with picnic tables, a gazebo & spacious playground for younger & older kids, surrounded by trees and flanked by the Fresno River & China Creek. Across the foot bridge from the park is the County Library. The Oakhurst River Parkway is a beautiful nature trail in the center of town meandering along the waterway. Oakhurst is a quaint yet contemporary California town just outside Yosemite.
