Our favorite restaurants
Good relaxing stop off after the park. Love Mexican Food? Indoor Mexican Dining Restaurant With Full Bar and Sports TV. Edchada's fits the bill for us, it has reasonable prices and a fun open seating atmosphere, a lively space at times decent Mexican, but somewhat run of the mill depending on what you get. Avoid the taco tuesdays is my recommendation. My personal favorite is the carne asada or amigo burrito, but the chips and salsa...! Can't stop.... :0 Oh and the Margarita(s)!

Getting a combo is recommended, I go with the 1/2 BBQ Chicken and 1/2 rack Babyback Ribs but you better bring your extra wallet, these combos aren't cheap! Hint: plenty of leftovers if you want to get a couple of meals of it! :0

Busy place particularly due to the location smack central in downtown Joshua Tree and because of the great filling traditional American breakfast!
Or If you're otherwise just headed into Joshua Tree for the tourist thing, we recommend going for breakfast! Sit outdoors in warmer weather and be sure to check their open hours before going!

Of course this can't really be considered 'local' to Dezert Daizy, but it should be considered a must at least once on the way in or out of town or during a longer stay - It's in the foothills a few miles off of Yucca Valley in Pioneer Town.

This is the newest great option for Mexican food in 29. I love the California Burrito in general and have tried many different local Mexican eateries, and I have found that this new contender tops the tops out of the local options for the California Burrito! Stuffed with sizzling Carne Asada and great french fries as well as the Tasty Pico!! Ask for the hot sauce as well, both the red and green are good, but I prefer the green! Try both. Very filling! Great price!

While this place is a campground, it is also a great place for hiking, sightseeing and for, of course, rock climbing! It also has a longer hike into the park proper. Some of the most spectacular rock formations in the area! Must see! If you're into that kinda thing! And check with the ranger station first if any day use pass required, haven't been climbing there myself so not sure. No cost to drive in.

Our particular favorite in the Joshua Tree National Park is the Ryan Ranch hike, pay very close attention to the panoramic view and the details of each segment of the pano. Panoramic photos recommended (zoom in to see the rock formations and the Joshua Trees!

Free night sky and constellations observation program each month on the Saturday closest to the new moon! Intriguing program. We recommend that you get there early, because this event fills up quick, downside is there is really nowhere to sit unless you bring your own portable chairs.
So, Bring chairs and snacks and water/drinks, since you have to arrive early it ends up being a long affair. Worth it though if you're into astronomy and night sky! Also, prepare for hot nights in the summer and Brrrrr cold nights beyond the shoulder seasons.
Note that this is presented on a television screen hooked to a telescope, which everyone must huddle around, so it is crowded
Please! If you go after dark, turn off your headlights as you enter the parking lot. Don't be one of 'those guys'
