Gloucester, MA is the country's oldest seaport and is right next door to Rockport. There is a lovely loop to drive or ride that takes you around Cape Ann (just follow Rt. 127 around the cape). Gloucester has some great restaurants too, as well as some must-see historical sites like:

Said to be the "most painted building in America"... and you can see it from Tuna Wharf! You will likely see a picture or painting of the Motif in nearly every shop and restaurant on Bearskin Neck..it's a game I play with myself....how many can I spot in one day!

Also look for the Gloucester Fisherman's Wive's Memorial, a bit further along the boulevard. Out in the harbor, you can see the greasy pole - a greased phone pole used for the annual Greasy Pole competition.
