The Arena in Pula is definitely one of the most famous monument in Pula. Situated on the Pula's Riviera, it was built in the 1st Century by the Roman Empire. Back than it hosted the gladiators fights and animal hunt, now it hosts the Film Festival in July and concerts. In the 18th century, researchers of Roman art became interested in the Arena, partly because it is the only amphitheater to have four rectangular towers built into the outer wall. From June to August is opened from 08:00 - 22:00.

Gastronomska scena

Batelina is a small family restaurant situated in Banjole. What makes this restaurant special is that it serves only the seafood they catch that day, so you are sure to eat only fresh seafood. The owner has won the Croatian Masterchef and the Michelline Star. The restaurant is all about high quality fish at this homely three-roomed restaurant, where menus are explained verbally to guests. Well-priced dishes are imaginatively conceived, beautifully presented and full of flavour try several of the starters! They don't accept credit cards - and you must call well ahead to book (even a month before).

Stancija Buršić is a storical family owned restaurant. The family produces home made prosciutto, sausages and olive oil which you can buy in their shop. In the menu they offer starters with prosciutto, sausages, local goat cheese and olives. From the main courses I would recommend fuzi with sgvacet (home made pasta with stew) and veal shank under a baking bell (make sure to order it in advance as the baking time is quite long). If you are a wine lover, try the red wine called Teran or the white wine called Malvazia The restaurant ownes a big terrace, a parking place, a playground for children and the possibility to see their pony and donkeys.

Da Rocco is a family owned restaurant. Situated in Krnica, the restaurant is hosted in an old istrian stone house. The menu offers typical Istrian meals such as home made pasta (fuzi and pljukanci) with a sauce made with Istrian beef (boskarin) or rooster meat. The owners pay special attention to traditional Istrian cuisine and prepare their dishes according to the old recipes of their grandmas (nonnas). All of their ingredients come from local suppliers, and their fish dishes are prepared using wild-caught fresh fish caught by the fishermen. For children they offer a customised children's menu with smaller portions. A typical istrian dish that you can try here is the traditional appetiser called Istarska supa (a dish prepared in a clay jug called bukaleta in which spices, olive oil, and red wine are combined, with the addition of grilled slices of bread that are left to soak in the mixture).

City of Pula on foot

If you are planning on visiting Pula, the city centre is not big and you can visit all the monuments and attractions on foot. As in the summer the temperatures are quite high, I would recommend to visit in the morning hours until 11am or in the evening after 6pm.
