If you're into urban culture & amazing food and beverages, this spot is the place to be! They have coffee/teas, as well as comfort foods and desserts. On occasion, they have live music/open mic events. And, it's only a few miles from the guesthouse!

Across the street from Platform Park, Co-Op is a local market open to all. Think Whole Foods, but the community members share ownership. It has all the health food items one could imagine, but also prepared foods and a little dining area. This is one of the closest organic health-focused grocery stores to the guesthouse.

Welcome to foodie heaven! One of my favorite things about Grand Central Market is the rotating food booths, ranging in variety, price and quality. This food-court styled place offers options ranging from oyster bars to taco bars. If you go with a group, you can all share a table eating great quality food from all around the world! Most of the booths are reasonably priced, and you can always munch on a spring roll, pupusa and pizza at the same time if you can't decide. Grand Central Market is located in downtown LA, about 8 miles and 19 minutes from the guesthouse.

Sightseeing

The closest hiking trails to the guesthouse can be found about four miles northwest. Kenneth Hahn has picnic areas, manmade ponds with ducks, and nice views of the ocean and DTLA on a clear day. You you park on Overhill and hike in or enter the park on the La Cienega Blvd. side (paid parking most days). It's a moderate work out and has a flat 1.3 mile track for those that like to jog or run.

This local museum rotates various artists, with a focus on Black and African art. It's free to the public and they have authors and artists come and do talks on occasion. Sometimes they host other events as well, like yoga and dance parties with DJs. It's near USC and the Rose Garden, Natural History Museum & the California Science Center. If you travel about three miles Northeast, can take the Expo/Western Metro Line to all of the above locations. Or it's about a 15 minute drive from the guesthouse.

Playa del Rey is the closest beach to the guesthouse. It's about 9 miles and a 20 minute drive away from here. What I love about this beach is that the water seems warmer in the summer than some of the other popular beaches, and the surf doesn't seem as strong. Also, there are public restrooms and places to rinse off on the beach. There's a bus line at the end of our block that goes to Playa del Rey.

Trendy Scene

This is one of my favorite spots, mostly because of the boba spot there, Boba Guys. If you're into flavored tea drinks, matcha, or coffee creations, you HAVE TO TRY IT! The Platform also has Pop's Bagels (bomb!), Loqi (high quality/casual Mexican food), Van Leeuwan Ice Cream, and a few restaurants. The area is very hip, very casual, very LA, and there's a cute park adjoining that is fun to hang out with friends. Sometimes Platform does pop up events. And there are retail shops that are high-end and rotate seasonally. Platform is located in Culver City, about 20 minute drive (7 miles) from the guesthouse.

Neighborhoods

Leimert Park has several Black owned businesses, including coffee shops and boutiques with African-inspired art & literature. Some of the shops have open mics or other events. Also, every Sunday Leimert Park has a popular street fair with vendors and drum circles. It's really fun and lively. Goes from about noon until near sundown.
