Definitely worth taking a walk when in the area. The canals, you probably know from many movies, but in contrast to many other movie spots this is really beautiful in real life.

One of the best views of the city (it's free!)! Try to go there around sunset and enjoy the breathtaking view all across Los Angeles. You can even hike up above the observatory building a bit further, so you'll have less residual light.

Park on the top of a hill on the Westside that gives stunning views over the city (especially downtown). Very cool thing to do in the early evening.
