Hvaleyrarvatn is a small lake located just outside Hafnarfjörður, surrounded by forests. Paths run around the lake and into the forest, allowing for nice walks or bike rides. There's a public outdoor grill, so why not bring some coal and some food (and a good woolen sweater)?

Perfect for a medium-long walk on a summer's eve, Garðakirkja is actually the church referred to in the name of our street, Kirkjuvegur (church road). It used to be the road townspeople used to walk to church on Sundays. There are still some farms here so you will probably run into sheep and horses. You will also have great views across the sea over to the Reykjanes peninsula, where the current volcanic eruption of Geldingadalir is in full swing.

Don't underestimate the weather!

Even in the summer months, the weather in Iceland is unpredictable and can get very dangerous very fast. Stay up to date with the weather forecasts, check out the website https://safetravel.is/ and download the Safe Travel app. If you're only staying in the capital region, you don't need to worry at all, but do pack a warm sweater and a water-proof jacket.
