Very comfotable and laid backed environment. The food here can be vegan, gluten free and very varied. Pizza is great here as well as their hamburgers but I especially love their Tuna Steak and Chicken Filet dinners

My favorite 'go-to' place. And the fact that it is walking distance, only 60 meters (200 ft.), to this restaurant is good. The food made by Christain here is all home made. He is from Sicily and the care and flavors of his foods shows. He does vegan and gluten free, too.

My favorite 'go-to' place. And the fact that it is walking distance, only 60 meters (200 ft.), to this restaurant is good. The food made by Christain here is all home made. He is from Sicily and the care and flavors of his foods shows. He does vegan and gluten free, too.

It is a medium priced establishment and is considered a tourist stop while commuting through Nuevo Arenal as it is on the main street. There can be tour buses that stop here. There are signs for many miles for this place as you come to Nuevo Arenal from La Fortuna or Tiliran

It is a medium priced establishment and is considered a tourist stop while commuting through Nuevo Arenal as it is on the main street. There can be tour buses that stop here. A nice restaurant with a great view, especially at sunset. I have been here a few times. It is a medium priced place and can sit larger groups. It is about a 30 minute walk from Casa Tortugerro or about 5 minutes by car.

Sightseeing
This a hiking area I recommend to guests who want to get away from very touristy areas and a hike I love to do. There are many varied waterfalls on the hike from a deep end to a slide waterfall. Very enjoyable

Though it is also a hotel, they have a day pass for a marvelous hike with GREAT views of Arenal Volcano just next door. But there is so much more on this hike including a spring fed pool, a waterfall you can swim in, a hike like walking through the farms of your own home areas.

Though it is also a hotel, they have a day pass for a marvelous hike with GREAT views of Arenal Volcano just next door. But there is so much more on this hike including a spring fed pool, a waterfall you can swim in, a hike like walking through the farms of your own home areas.
This is a medium priced thermal pools hotel that has a day pass and over 25 pools to enjoy including areas for children to play in. There is adult only pools with sit down areas for a drink while relaxing. A day pass can include a lunch or dinner or not.

A hike through the jungle like environment. Mistico is what Lake Arenal looked like before the man-made lake was put in place. It is a tourist attraction with tour guides for a two hour or so hike. Moderately expensive.

Puerto Viejo is on the east coast or Caribbean side of the Costa Rica and is about 6 hours from Casa Tortugerro. It is a beautiful beach area and is so different from the west coast / Pacific side of the country that it feels like you are in a different country.

Besides being the town where Casa Tortugerro is located, it is a farming community and not a touristy area. The people are friendly and caring and ia great place to spend a day, or a month or, like me, the rest of my life. You will love Nuevo Arenal.

La Fortuna is about 45 minutes away from Casa Tortugerro by car or an hour by bus. It is a larger, very tourist town, that is home to the thermals springs, restaurants, bars and night spots and Arenal Volcano is on its outskirts.

Monteverde is in the midst of the cloud forest and is about two hours away from Casa Tortugerro. They have a GREAT National Park here and has a wonderful guided hike. The weather is very varied being in the cloud forest but can be accessible for many.

Having a car in this area is good. Local buses are available
From San Jose, one can take a bus to Nuevo Arenal by going through the towns of Cuidad QUesada to La Fortuna to Nuevo Arenal - about 4 plus hours. Cost is about $20 a person.
Ther are buses from Nuevo Arenal to La Fortuna, Tiliran or Guatuso, where connections to others parts of the country can be made.
There are local, inexpensive taxis that come to your door, too!
