Sightseeing
The number one attraction here is the Tenorio National Park and it's crazy blue Celeste River. The park is about a 15 minute drive away and it's an easy drive. There's lots of parking there and also some restaurants to grab a bite or drink after. It will take you about three hours to do the whole hike, and we suggest you do it all. Many people only go as far as the waterfall, but the lagoons are pretty cool and the source of the blue (where a volcano fissure in the river turns the water blue) is also worth it to see : )

This is a completely different habitat and the waterways are full of exotic birds and Caymans, crocodiles, etc. We suggest you let a tour operator take you there - Terra Tours www. terratourscr.com It''s about an hour and a half away.

One place that not too many people go, but is quite fascinating is the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. This is a completely different habitat and the waterways are full of exotic birds and Caymans, crocodiles, etc. We suggest you let a tour operator take you there - Terra Tours www. terratourscr.com It''s about an hour and a half away.

For soaking in hot springs there are quite a few around, but our favorite is Ecotermales. It's near the town of La Fortuna , about a 90 minute drive away. It is about $30 for a half day and you sign up for either a morning shift (10am to 4pm) or an evening shift (do the morning). The facility is immaculate, the water is amazing, and the ambiance excellent. It's a bit hard to get to (roads are great but you need to know where you are going). Suggest you decline their 'in house restaurant' lunch offering and have a late lunch in the town of La Fortuna afterwards.

Tree Chocolate Tour
Tree Chocolate Tour. This is a 'more fascinating than you'd think' walking tour of a cocoa farm, and production area. The art of farming cocoa trees is explained, and many other interesting plants are encountered along the way.
