La Pepica When Valencianos say that they are "going to the beach," they usually mean Playa de Malvarossa, an urban strand blessed by fine sand, gentle waves, surprisingly clean waters—and the mother of all paella restaurants, La Pepica. While three-quarters of the menu of this venerable eatery (founded 1898) consists of fish and shellfish, the other quarter is a golden litany of nearly two dozen classic Valencian rice dishes. The prices can be a bit high

This is a spectacular restaurant. You eat right on the mediterranean--directly across from the sea. The restaurant is gorgeous and spotless. Eating indoors surrounded by beautiful tiles, or out--under awnings and umbrellas, shaded from the sun, you will enjoy the best paella in Valencia. Every course is wonderful, from mussels (called clochinas in Valencia) to the succulent paella itself. Even the melon, for dessert, is outstanding. With wonderful service and excellent prices, Casa Navarro is located away from the tourist strip at the beach, in an area called Alboraya. Worth a cab ride (or a drive if you have a car). Easy to get back to town by calling for a cab--the restaurant will help you do this.

One of the best restaurants in Valencia with excellent prices. This restaurant does not work with a menu. They prepare the food what they buy that day. Fresh as fresh can be, and from a very good quality for a reasonable price. also the wines are matching good

Really excellently tasty tapas, with a great range and at a very good price; I've been here many times. The staff are very attentive. Although due to its popularity, it's very difficult to get a table without a reservation.

Drinks & Nightlife

Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar is Valencia’s jazz temple. Dimmed lights, jazzy background music, music art on the walls and great performances are the key features of this Spanish institution. Obviously, you shouldn’t miss Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar when you like jazz, but at them same time it’s a great place for a first jazzy experience. It’s cozy and laid-back and the visitors are an interesting mix of locals and internationals. We love this place for a relaxed chat, a nice drink and their special concerts. The international concerts are usually held on Tuesdays. There are free Piano Duo Session on Fridays.

Everyone who walks into L’umbracle for the first time is overwhelmed by the beauty of the nightclub. The club is part of the “Ciudad de las Artes y las ciencias” ,the City of Arts and Sciences. L’Umbracle is not only an impressive place to visit because of its beautiful building, palm trees, flowers and large variety of other plants, during the summer months you can enjoy great parties there. L’Umbracle looks very glamorous with subtle colored lights, a purple carpet and a very stylish bar. Besides sipping a cocktail (the gin tonics are to die for) in one of the comfortable chairs, you can dance till late at night and enjoy the Valencian nights in the open-air.

Shopping

One of Valencia's most famous street markets is the Plaza Redonda market that takes place every Sunday (and also on public holidays) - see below. The market has been taking place since the nineteenth century at the heart of Valencia's old town - El Carmen. On sale here you will find music, paintings, books, plants, animals and leather goods. Also, if you are a stamp and coin enthusiast, head to the Sunday Lonja de la Seda Market - here you can watch collectors exchanging and bartering.

Considered to be one of the most beautiful market halls in Europe, Mercat Central de Valencia is one of the city’s must-see attractions. Historically a hub of commerce and social activity, the Central Market remains a great place to experience the local color of Valencia. And, unlike the Boqueria Market in Barcelona, Valencia’s Central Market is much less touristy. The present day modernist Central Market, which opened in 1928, is located on the site of a previous traveling market and the subsequent Mercado Nuevo established in 1839. Construction of the current building began in 1910 according to designs by architects Alejandro Soler March and Francisco Guardia Vial. An ornate and immense domed structure constructed of iron, ceramic tiles, glass, marble and stone, the market houses a virtual city; there are close to 400 vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and juices, to breads, nuts and candy, vegetables, meats, and an overwhelming supply of fish and seafood – so abundant that the ‘fish market’ has its own designated area. Mercat Central can be found in the aptly named El Mercat neighborhood, an area of the city worthy of mention not only for the market hall, but for a few neighboring buildings as well. Next door to the market is Església de Sant Joan del Mercat, the 13th century Church of San Juan of the Market built above the ruins of a previous Mosque. And, across Plaça del Mercat, there’s the palatial 15th century Llotja de la Seda, the former Silk Exchange, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s easily recognizable by its crenelated tower and rooftop.
