Years ago it was a Golden Corral but now it's Sushi Fushion. If you like Asian cuisine Taiyo crosses most borders and satisfies most cravings.

Once the first port in Texas and "Queen City Of The West" Indianola lost its title to back to back hurricanes which helped turn the largest port in Texas into a ghost town. Now only a few hundred salty souls call this desert marsh home. Keep your eyes out for the cemetery and definitely follow the road to its pleasant denouement at the Marina store with its beautiful view and great grub you'll find there's no need to pack a lunch.

What is today known as the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge first emerged 120,000 years ago during the Pleistocene era when a barrier island was born. Great continental glaciers retreated and their melted ice filled the sea. A rising sea piled up ridge after ridge of sand along today’s Texas Gulf Coast, creating a vast island of which Aransas is a remnant. Time brought many changes to the land. River sediments filled barrier lagoons, joining the island to the mainland. Grasses and trees invaded sandy ridges creating a home for Ice Age mammals such as lion, camel, bison, bear, mammoth and mastodon. The Pleistocene era was lost to geological history; behind it was left the land and a few mementos of that era, including fossilized teeth and alligators.

One of our favorite things to do. Pile in the car early in the morning and drive your car onto the ferry to get to the best beaches in Texas at Mustang Island. Make sure to get out of the car to enjoy the breeze and keep your eyes peeled for dolphins.

Make sure to use copious amounts of sunscreen and bring shade if you can. A wonderful place to go body surfing, and if you're a fearless swimmer... the second sandbar out has living sand dollars you can find with your feet. (Sandbars can be seen by where the waves are breaking.)

If you're still hungry for adventures... or just plain hungry drive down Mustang Island and take the causeway into Corpus Christi. You'll find something to eat and the oldest shipwreck in the Western Hemisphere.
