Beautiful canyon only 15 min drive away from Hemrumork. Highly recommended.
Bjarnarfoss is a beautifull waterfall only 15-20 min. walking distance from the chalet. Just walk the little road from the chalet and cross over towards the garage to your left. Do not enter the parking area in front of the garage. Continue in the same direction with your back to the chalet. Find a grass path that leads north. You are walking away from the chalets, north towards Bjarnarfoss. Soon you can hear the sound of the falling water. Just keep following the grass path until you will find Bjarnarfoss.

Very nice walk and beautiful views. Also Systrafoss waterfall.

Amazing trip to the highland. Note, you need a 4x4 and preferably an SUV but not necessary. Holaskjol is about a 50 min drive from Hemrumork, a truly beautiful drive.

Kjarr Restaurant at Kirkjubaejarklaustur. A newly opened restaurant (2022) very nice, great food and service. Cosy atmosphere and nice decor in a country modern style. Highly recommend to eat at this restaurant and especially recommend the local Char dish if you like fish.

Nice food, simple menu, they serve only local Char or Icelandic Lamb. Good food in a nice area, close to Fjadrargljufur Canyon.

Buying lamb from a local farmer
You can buy lamb meat directly from farmer Mr. Sigurjonsson at Borgarfell, a farm in Skaftartunga. 10 min drive from the chalet. You can call him at 893-1963. Necessary to call beforehand to order.

Experience local Arctic Char Klaustursbleikja
At the grocery store in Kirkjubaejarklaustur they usually have a local char called KLAUSTURSBLEIKJA. If you like fish, we highly recommend to get some. Season with lemon and salt &pepper and barbecue for a few minutes, careful not to overcook. (Barbecue trays recommended). Enjoy!
