Walking distance to the best French Toast ("Mom's French Toast") -- ask for the Kahlua whipped cream -- and some pretty awesome pancakes. Local note: get one. I promise, one will be more than enough; the standard 3 is purely a photo-op:)
Expect a good 30 minute wait in line unless you go early early or catch the afternoon lunch lull. But it's worth it!

The Laurel Canyon music scene was a big thing in the 70s, a folk music (hippy) vibe, and the moment you step inside this hideaway a little ways up the canyon, you feel like you're stepping back in time. Sure you might see a star sneaking a private dinner, but more likely you'll feel like a star. Valet park -- pull in immediately after the little grocery store (on your right) right after the light at Kirkwood. Order the shuffle in advance:) Both the patio and inside are filled with charm.

Great hotel (nice food in back, too; just walk through the lobby and past the pool; it's sort of hidden) and just an ideal spot to hideaway in the dark corners, either inside or on the secluded covered patio that allows guests/scenesters to smoke:)
