The biggest hikes are at the top of the pass- Old Speck on the left or Bald Pate on the right. Old Speck is the larger of the two with a fire tower and a pond on the top. It’s the third highest mountain in Maine. Very steep in parts. Contributing west from the summit is “the hardest mile on the AT” I would not recommend that unless you are very enthusiastic hikers. Most day trippers go to the summit and then back to the car.
On the other side is Baldpate, also a fantastic
Hike and if you want something even milder you can stop after 45 minutes and go to Table Rock. You’ll feel like you are sitting on a ledge overlooking Maine.

Good Food store has a great natural foods selection. Larger than the Local Hub, but farther away. Great selection of beers, wines and pre-made meals. The BBQ trailer nit eh driveway is top-notch!

The Bethel Foodliner (or IGA, as the locals call it) is a standard run of the mill grocery store. The quality and selection is most likely less that what you are hoping for, but if you are looking for standard groceries, this is the place.

Not much goes on in Bethel unless it's high tourist season. Suds is your best best for decent beers, gourmet pizza and the ski bum or mountain bike bum scene.
