right across from Golden Gate Park, this is a nice place to stop for a drink and appetizers after a day of touring. Modern comfortable atmosphere, small heated outdoor seating area. Expensive if you stay for dinner, but the food is good.

Don't be put off by the fluorescent lights and basement location. The southeast asian food is super tasty. Skewers, potatoes, and noodle dishes are worth ordering. I think it's BYOB.

In the UCSF student union. I don't think there is a better view than this in San Francisco. Have a sandwich, glass of wine and espresso and sit on the deck overlooking Golden Gate Park, the Presidio and beyond to Marin. Spectacular. Don't expect much from the food. It's just OK.

The best thing to eat at outer lands that is the Tartine stye bread which they offer in limited quantity to the first 5-10 people who ask after 5PM. By 5:30 it's gone, unless of course you eat a meal there. Dinner and brunch.

Second, this is not your normal goopy, gloppy, pour over white rice, MSG laced chinese food. This is fresh, beautifully presented(but not pretentious) and thoughtfully paced food so you can enjoy each dish on it's own. Food for the adventurous along with favorites you'd expect.
Third, it's not terribly expensive. I've spent half this much on burritos and this was WAY better. ~$30/per person with a drink.

This is completely off the tourist path but if you like a perfect thin crust pizza or house made sausage in an outdoor setting, this place is great! It's just a trailer where there used to be a gas station, but they've converted it to a garden setting with picnic tables that is simply charming. The salads are just as amazing as the pizza. Good food takes time, so order and head across the street to Flora Grubb Gardens to check out the exquisite gifts and a horticultural display like no other. There's a lot going on at the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street. This iconic building underwent a stunning renovation in the early 00's so is worth a visit just for that. It houses a foodie paradise along with adjunct business like Heath Ceramics and the Gardener. On Saturdays and Thursdays there is a traditional Farmers Market surrounding the building from 8-2(Sat) and 9-1(Th). My favorite place to rest after taking it all in(and it's a lot!) is Boulet's Larder.

You have never seen anything like these gardens. There is a coffee kiosk inside and heated benches outside where you can just sit and take it all in.
