The famous Reynisfjara shore, near Vik in Myrdalur, is regarded by many as the most impressive black sand beach in Iceland. Out in the sea there are the beautifully shaped basalt sea stacks Reynisdrangar. The area has a rich birdlife, including puffins, fulmars and guillemots. The waves in Reynisfjara are very strong and unpredictable. Fatal accidents have occurred at this beach. You should be safe if folllow the instructions and keep cautioun when visiting. It takes abouIt two hours to drive to Reynisfjara from the Cottage.
