Food scene

Puerto Nuevo - This is Baja's famous lobster town. Located about 15 min. north of our place off of Route 1. Lobster is on the menu at every restaurant in Puerto Nuevo, and not much else. Make sure you experience the home made flour tortillas! Our family favorites are Villa Ortega with a lovely patio view. And Hacienda Ortega on the opposite side of town. Both have free parking. They have slightly different menu's and they are both excellent choices. There are little shops in the village to walk off those lobster calories.

Primo Tapia - I personally feel this is some of the best food close to our place. Located 10-15 min. north of us on the free road. Could use some work on the ambiance. Patio seating is good. Try the Mole crusted Blue Fin - the best! Their Strawberry Mojito's are pretty tasty too. They have gourmet pizza, but I have not tried it yet. The menu is varied, and so far everyone who has been there have not been disappointed.

You need to go north on Route 1, exit at La Fonda towards La Mision- and head south on the free road. You will run into it.

There is a mixed crowd of all ages. There is a reason it's called splash - watch out for the incoming waves. This recommendation is the only one of mine that is a little more lively, as far as noise level, and a younger vibe.

Rosarito is a tourist attraction with many shops where bartering is part of the fun. Many restaurants, and bars. Great taco stands, but also lots of really unique restaurants. Check out Rosarito Beach Hotel for some local history. La Estancia (North Rosarito)for unique patio setting, and good food. Also great for cold days sitting next to the fireplaces indoors. For really good Carnitas, you might try Carnitas La Flor De Michoacan. You can park right in front, and check out the shops behind. El Nido is another cool place, with unique decor. Rosarito is a smaller version of Ensenada. Usually, not quite as busy. In the mood to go horseback riding on the beach? Here is where you can do that.
