Wahkeena, named with a Yakama (a tribe in the Pacific Northeast) word meaning “most beautiful,” is located on the edge of the Hocking Hills. This outdoor education area is used for nature study and is a preserve for birds and other wildlife. Wahkeena Nature Preserve is one of 58 sites owned by the Ohio History Connection, a private, non-profit organization. Wahkeena is managed by the Fairfield County Park District and supported by the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs.

Ohio's largest state nature preserve. Clear Creek Metro Park features over 5,300 acres of woodland interspersed with blackhand sandstone cliffs, ravines and creeks and is home to more than 2,200 species of plants and animals.

1) Lower Trail is a ¾ mile long, wheelchair-accessible trail. It takes about 1 hour to hike the trail.
2) Upper Trail is a one-way trail that is 2 miles long. This hike may be considered strenuous for those who are not physically fit, do not hike regularly, or have health issues such as knee surgeries or heart problems. It involves a moderate to steep incline, uneven steps, 70 to 100-foot cliff drops, paths with visible roots, and steep terrain. It is not suitable for young children, unfit adults, or pets.
