Arguably the best view in Merimbula, Bar Beach kiosk is a must visit while in town. Head down early to grab a coffee and breaky, take a seat and watch the surfers and paddle borders. When you’ve finished, go for a dip yourself! Getting here - drive and park or walk the 6km return walk from Salty Heights. The walk is flat through town, a slight incline up to Lake Street and then onto the amazing new elevated sharepath (safe for the kids and prams). The views are worth the walk!! Recommend checking bar beach kiosk Instagram for opening hours.

Longstocking brewery is a perfect family friendly spot in Pambula for an afternoon beverage! Set up out the back on the grass where the kids can go and visit the resident farm animals. The ostrich is our favourite! Wildfire pizzas/oyster bar operates everyday 12pm-3pm and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings 5pm-8pm. Check their Facebook to see if they have any live music over the weekend.

Family friendly

Mitchies Jetty is a must visit while you’re in town. This is the best spot to set up for the day with young kids who can paddle in the lake (protected water with no waves) for hours. They will love jumping off the jetty into the water! The beach is dog friendly and you’ll catch the locals walking along the beach most mornings. Hire a paddle board and go out and look for the resident sting rays. Mitchies Espresso Bar (coffee cart) is located on the beach and open 7 days from 6:30am-midday. We love walking from Salty heights through town, over the bridge to Fishpen and along the lake straight to the jetty for a coffee and to check the surf at main beach. It’s about a 2km flat walk one way. Alternatively, pack the car and park right at the jetty at the end of fishpen road.

Pambula river mouth is a must visit for a family-friendly spot to swim. It’s protected and a great spot for young kids to paddle around with no, or minimal waves. Take a short bush walk from the river mouth along the coast back up towards Pambula beach for amazing views and photo opportunities! While you’re in Pambula, head to the main street (Quondola Street) to check out the bakery, coffee shops and boutiques. Stop in at Bianchini gelato for the best ice cream in town. Take the 20 minute drive north along the coast to Tathra for a great day trip. We recommend visiting Tathra Wharf, a heritage-listed former wharf turned gallery, cafe and a popular fishing spot for locals. The wharf is great spot to grab a coffee, have a short stroll and admire the sea life through clear waters below. For more information on the wharf click on the Visit NSW website -https://www.visitnsw.com/destinations/south-coast/merimbula-and-sapphire-coast/tathra/attractions/tathra-wharf

Ben Boyd is a stunning national park and must visit when you’re on the far south coast. The Pambula-Haycock area is a short drive from merimbula and there is a stunning walk from haycock point around to the Pambula River mouth. If it’s warm pack your swimmers for a dip! Drive to the end of Haycock Road to park and follow the walking track signs. If you are looking for an all day adventure, head through Eden down towards Ben Boyd tower off Edrom Road, then on to Saltwater Creek. Check out the lighthouse and keep your eye out for whales during whale season. If you’re a keen walker, do the Light to light. Or just do sections of the walk while you’re down there. The NPWS office in Merimbula can provide you with information if you need advice. Check the website before you go in case of any closures due to park management. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/ben-boyd-national-park

If you are looking to explore a little bit further with the kids, take the 20 minute drive from Salty Heights to Kianinny Bay. Kianinny Bay is a sheltered inlet in Tathra, known for its resident stingrays and pristine blue water. It is a great swimming spot usually protected from the wind. Pack a picnic and use the public BBQ facilities to cook lunch.
