Beaches
This is a beautiful city to walk around (small town beachy feel), especially from Hotel Del Coronado heading south along the beach. See if you can figure out what the dunes spell out! You can also browse the little shops and restaurants along Orange Avenue.

This is one of our favorite beaches - a little bit of a drive but it's tucked away and usually not crowded. It's got a small town feel, nice bathrooms and often parking available in the lot.

La Jolla has beautiful art galleries and fancy stores that are fun to peruse. The walk along the coastal cliffs starting at Windansea Beach to the La Jolla Tide Pools is delightful. Various little paths lead to small beaches. A short drive away, enjoy La Jolla Shores Beach with lifeguards, a playground, bathrooms, Scripps pier and a beautiful beach. Parking lots can get full in the summer, but free street parking is available for many blocks around.

La Jolla has beautiful art galleries and fancy stores that are fun to peruse. The walk along the coastal cliffs starting at Windansea Beach to the La Jolla Tide Pools is delightful. Parking lots can get full in the summer, but free street parking is available for many blocks around.

This is our favorite sushi restaurant! It's tasty and economical. There's often a long line to dine in, so we usually order take out. If you're a flexible eater, order their monthly special to try for different rolls of their choice!

Balboa Park is home not only to the San Diego Zoo, but also many museums and the Japanese Friendship Garden. The architecture is beautiful with fountains and promenades. It's fun even just to walk around this area.

Unexpectedly fun! Great to see inside an aircraft carrier and even see the planes on the top deck (and a great view of downtown). You could spend 3-4 hours here if you enjoy exploring all the exhibits.

Our local National Monument with a great view of downtown, a historic lighthouse and Jr Ranger badges available to earn. There's an upper parking lot and area to explore (bunkers from WWII) and a lower parking area you have to drive to where you can walk along the cliffs next the ocean.

A beatiful place to come see the sunset. We do sometimes get a coastal marine layer that blocks the sunset view, so look west before you make a special trip (locals call it May Gray and June Gloom).
