The original station master's house, hay barn and a replica waiting room/ticket office are all still in place together with the platform and the site of the old tracks and stunning granite railway bridge. The Signal Box provides a private, quiet, cosy, comfortable, well equipped relaxing space for those who just want to get away from it all and find some peace and tranquility
Located in an AONB (The Tamar Valley) and UNESCO World Heritage Site for mining it's perfectly located for those who like to spend their time in the countryside and sightseeing, walking, taking photos and making memories. It's also an ideal location for dog owners.
The surrounding area has many places of interest, here are a few to whet your appetite:
*Kit Hill Country Park is just a couple of minutes drive away from The Signal Box, it's a stunning place with amazing panoramic views of the surrounding area and It's a superb area for rambling and dog walking. On a clear day from Kit Hill monument at the summit the views are far reaching out to Plymouth and south coast of Devon and Cornwall. Sunrises and sunsets from this vantage point are highly recommended
*The Cheesewring on Stowe's Hill is highly recommended, it's around 20 minutes drive away and is a stunning sight, there are plenty of great walks in this area.
*Bodmin Moor, for Poldark fans, is just 15 minutes drive away
*Dartmoor National Park is about 20 minutes away
*National Trust Cotehele and it's gardens and grounds is just 2 miles away
*National Trust Saltram House is 13 miles away in Plymouth
*Pentille Castle and it's beautiful gardens is about 10-15 minutes drive away away and featured in the TV series 'Delicious'. In summer they have outdoor theatre events.
*Calstock and it's stunning viaduct is worth visiting and is about 10 minutes drive away, it's a stunning small village with a lovely pub, some unique little shops and wonderful riverside walks
*Tavistock is a beautiful historic town with fabulous buildings and a wealth of interesting unique local shops, it's pannier market is well worth a visit too. Tavistock's Bedford Hotel is famed for introducing afternoon cream tea, it's cream first on this side of the border (jam first is the correct way of course (O:) it's just 15 minutes drive away
*Tamar Trails in Gulworthy for walking, cycling and tree surfing - if you like a challenge! it's about 10 minutes drive away
*We highly recommend visiting the south coast fishing villages: Looe, Polperro, Fowey and Mevagissey all beautiful and all individually worth visiting, you can decide which one is your favourite... all within an hour's drive from The Signal Box
*St Mellion International golf and leisure resort is less than 10 minutes drive away and offers two golf courses, spa and gym. Why not book a game of golf on the championship course? or a relaxing massage in the spa?
*Breathtakingly beautiful Charlestown, again of Poldark fame, is just 30 minutes drive away the harbour area is wild and stunning and it boasts some lovely restaurants and shops too, we like visiting here outside of high season
* One of our personal favourite's for a day out is Port Isaac of TV's 'Doc Martin' fame, it's just 55 minutes drive away located on Cornwall's North Coast and it has many unique little shops and restaurants (book ahead). It's such a stunning village if... a bit too busy in the summer months so we highly recommended a visit here to our out of the main season guests...
There are many more recommendations, this is just a small sample for your consideration.
The local area is a world heritage site for mining and there are many mine buildings worth visiting in the locality, a maps of the local mines (there are hundreds) is displayed on the wall in The Signal Box
There are numerous quality pubs & restaurants in the locality and a bit further afield. Be preapred, Devon and Cornwall is a foodies paradise, so if you like your food, especially seafood, you're in for a treat. We highly recommend getting some fresh Cornish crab, some fresh bread and butter and treating yourself to a crab sandwich... one of our favourite treats
There is a large supermarket (Tesco) within 2 miles and plenty of farm shops in the area, including our favourites: Tre, Pol and Pen located in Lezant and Eversfield Organic located in Tavistock, we can highly recommend these shops who provide a good range of high quality local produce ideal for those who wish to home cook during their stay.
We have provided a range of maps, guides and leaflets in the property for guests to peruse at their leisure and we are also delighted to provide recommendations if required.
We provide a welcome folder in the property which contains menu's of lcoal take aways (most of which will deliver for a fee): Chinese, indian, fish and chips, kebab's, pizza, fried chicken.
Louis tea room is just a few minutes away from here and provides a take away and licensed restuarant (for breakfast, lunch and dinner - always check opening hours), it's good quality and reasonably priced and also has a small farm shop selling a good range of items
We use the app iwalkcornwall for walking and rambling and would highly recommend this app to visitors, especially if you like to bespoke your walk with specific requirements such as a pub en-route or dog friendly etc...
We are on insta gram and face book - oldluckettstation and we will be sharing our photos and recommendations on this platform too, please follow us for a flavour of life at the old station and ideas for days out when visiting Devon and Cornwall

Whilst on holiday in St Mawes in Cornwall having lunch at The Pandora Inn at Mylor with my sister and brother in law back in September '14, my husband Tim and I decided it was time to make some changes in our lives and we planned a new life for ourselves in Cornwall. We both gave up our long term careers; I worked in foreign exchange and had been based at Gatwick Airport for 23 years and my husband in the motor trade in Beckenham, Kent for over 30 years. We sold our home in Surrey and made the move to Cornwall in August '17 - two years ahead of our planned target! We both love everything about our lives in Cornwall we feel blessed and very lucky and enjoy the added benefit of living just under 2 miles from the border between Cornwall and Devon which has made a big difference for us in as much as we are more easily connected with friends and family from different parts of the UK whilst living in this amazing county.
During our working lives, we both especially enjoyed the customer service side of our roles so it was a natural transition of career for us to join forces and combine our shared passion and skill sets running our two holiday homes together - The Signal Box from 2018 and The Sidings followed on later in 2020. We believe we've achieved the perfect balance with both holiday properties located in totally different, unique and private areas of our former railway station home with both set well away from the main station house and so that visiting guests and we can all enjoy privacy, seclusion, relaxation and peace.
Since moving to Cornwall, we have spent our time renovating our home and garden and continue improving our holiday homes and the grounds of the station creating, what for us, is a unique and special place to live and for people to visit.
Since we opened The Signal Box and The Sidings we have welcomed and listened to feedback from guests as well as ideas and advice from friends and family and using this valuable information we continually strive to keep improving and refreshing our homes. Whilst we were closed for business during the pandemic we were grateful that we were given the opportunity and downtime to make changes and improvements to both The Sidings and The Signal Box that we believe have added to the overall experience.
Enjoying 'that view' has been the number one positive comment shared by our visitors (we've welcomed in excess of 1200 guests so far!) and we feel that the addition of hot tubs set in outdoor undercover areas facing 'that view' added to the experience and also provided additional covered outdoor space for when the weather and seasons dictate.
We are really looking forward to the seasons ahead and will continue striving together to provide guests with totally unique and memorable experiences at The Signal Box and The Sidings. Constructive feedback is always welcomed so that we may continue to improve.

Our very much loved pets share out lives too
Rico, is our 7.5 year old big grey soppy rescued Italian mastiff (cane corso) and Nero our more recent addition, our black cane corso puppy born in December 21 - Many guests bring their own dogs to the old station so we tend to keep our dogs out of the way in our part of the property so that all dogs have their own space.
Our cats Florence (fluffy black) and Dougal (fluffy ginger) are 4 years old now, brother and sister born in the RSPCA in Cornwall and both wonderful personalities but tend to stay out of the way.
The four sheep living in the paddock surrounding The Signal Box (all tame and all dog friendly/savy) are:
Francis (the big boy) he's the oldest at over 5 years old and we brought him down from Surrey to live with us in Cornwall, he was a tame bottle fed lamb in a farmers field and I fell in love with him and wanted to save him from his fate...
The two other smaller white sheep are Boris and Donald - they are rare breed white faced Dartmoor sheep that we bought from a farm in Devon. The breed originates from the Dartmoor area so they were ideal to join the Luckett Station flock and Thomas the little brown/black sheep who joined the flock in July '21. He was rescued when found trapped between rocks on Bodmin Moor abandoned by his mum, he's got a lovely nature
We also keep 8 beautiful pet chickens in a large enclosure close to entrance of the main station house, 4 stunning grey, white and black copper maran's amongst them. If they are available, guests are offered eggs too - they're delicious! £1.50 for 6 or £1 for 4, please just ask if you'd like some,
